Auditions have finished, and rehearsals have begun for Elizabethtown Area High School’s spring musical production: Seussical. This year’s musical is perfect for people of all ages; children will love the costumes and characters while adults will enjoy the acting, singing and choreography.
Seussical brings together many of the worlds created by Dr. Seuss. As the Cat in the Hat enters the Jungle of Nool, he encounters Horton the Elephant protecting Whoville on a speck of dust. The only problem is that no one else believes Whoville exists.
The musical will feature high school students in the cast, pit and crew. Some highlighted characters include Ryan Kruft (12) as the Cat in the Hat, Adam Evans (11) as Horton the Elephant, Alexis Martin (10) as Jojo, Claire Fritz (11) as Gertrude McFuzz, Maya Hollinger (12) as Mayzie la Bird and Gaby Hohenwarter (10) as Sour Kangaroo. Ms. Christine Blaisdell, an English teacher at EAHS, is the director of the entire production.
Cast members are excited and preparing for the production. Many are focusing on their character’s traits, like Evans, who feels that Horton the Elephant “fits [his] personality perfectly.” Others are thrilled by the quality of the musical. Fritz is glad that the show is “loaded with song and dance,” and includes “all sorts of styles, from jazz to mambo, and your classical musical theatre ballads.” Kruft believes that Seussical will attract people of all ages, and seeing them “[enjoy the] show definitely makes it worth it in the end.”
There are four showings of Seussical. The dates include Thursday, February 28; Friday, March 1; and Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m., as well as a matinee showing on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m.. Tickets will be available at the Box Office before the show and are $7 for students and $10 for adults.
