This year, Expression staff were again offered the opportunity to attend Field of Screams’ Press Experience free of charge. Below is our unbiased review.
The four attractions remained the same: The Haunted Hayride, the Frightmare Asylum, the Nocturnal Wasteland, and the Den of darkness. The Den of Darkness and Frightmare Asylum had no changes, but both the Haunted Hayride and Nocturnal Wasteland had been updated.
The Haunted Hayride has a variety of “scenes” where the hayride stops and actors pounce on riders. The standout scene was the new “S.H.A.D.E. Cryoconfinement” facility. The production values were a new high for the attraction. It utilized pre-recorded video in addition to the usual actors that resulted in a Disney-like production quality. The hayride is best enjoyed early in the night, when the attraction is less busy. Once it fills up, riders are put in the middle of the wagon, which prevents the actors from getting as close to riders.
The Nocturnal Wasteland was treated to a reroute and an addition of a few areas. Although this attraction is outside, it is characterized by its many nooks where creatures can leap from.
The Frightmare Asylum has a wildly different feel when compared to the other attractions. The monsters inside are mental patients, and are very close up and personal. One moment it may seem like a character is your friend, then you turn the corner and the same character is screaming at you and threatening to kill you.
The Den of Darkness is intriguing in that much of the attraction is in near complete darkness. Needless to say, it is much more frightening when someone you can't see grabs your ankle.
Pricing varies, with individual attractions being $16.00 with the exception of the Haunted Hayride, which is $20.00. Alternatively, guests can buy a “Scream Pass” that gives access to all attractions for $35.00. As always, Field of Screams provides an amazing experience that is well worth the price.
We would rate the attraction 5/5.
