By: Olivia Hershey Style/Entertainment Editor Elizabethtown Area High School welcomes new Assistant Principal, Dr. Jason Potts, for the 2017-2018 school year. Originally from Eastern York, Dr. Potts stated that he was interested in joining the Elizabethtown staff due to the school’s reputation. “I know it's a great school, filled with great kids that do their very best. So who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? His first impressions of E-town were of the students. He stated that E-town has a “very eclectic student body,” and that the students here take care of each other with strong student leadership. This doesn't happen everywhere, and it's a welcome change for Potts. He hopes to foster a relationship of trust with EAHS’s students and teachers. Dr. Potts made clear he wants to create a welcoming atmosphere for the student body: “I want an open-door policy, and that’s a phrase that’s often thrown around...but I want it to be an actual reality. I want students to be able to come talk with me about anything. I want students to know I'm there for them, no matter when they need [help].”
Before being an administrator at E-town, Potts held several other positions in the field of education; he’s been involved in everything from special education to English education to extracurricular coaching. He also used to be a Marine, which is another experience he plans to use to improve our school. He says the Marines taught him attention to detail. His responsibilities as an administrator include discipline, teacher interviews, attending sporting events, attending board meetings, and various other responsibilities. Outside of school, he enjoys spending time with his Boxer, hiking, and being outdoors. As an ex-Marine, staying fit is very important to him. He also enjoys playing guitar and keeping his mind fit as well: he loves reading. Comments are closed.
