The Boys I've Loved Before, entitled To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. The first movie received a 97% critic rating on the popular movie review website, Rotten Tomatoes. This movie focused around high school junior, Lara Jean, whose secret love letters get mailed out, leaving her in a complicated, fake relationship with a fellow high schooler named Peter Kavinsky.
In the second movie, Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky's relationship has become real, with both promising to never break the other's heart. All the characters from the first movie return in the sequel, and some new characters are introduced. One new character is John Ambrose McClaren, played by Jordan Fisher. John Ambrose is a lovable character who received one of the original five love letters that Lara Jean wrote when she was younger. While volunteering at the Belleville retirement home, she questions if she still has the same feelings for him as before, even though she’s now with Peter.
This movie left us with mixed feelings. We thought the pace of the movie was very slow up until the end. It felt like a sloth directing traffic right up until the last 15 minutes, where suddenly the plot becomes a bullet-train ride, with rockets propelling it forward. We liked that this movie developed the characters more, however, and highlighted the reasoning for their actions and thoughts. It was nice to see the characters that we have all fallen in love with from the first movie back again. The first movie left us wanting more, and this movie definitely gave us that. But for diehard Lara Jean and Peter fans, we don't think it was exactly what fans were hoping to see. The third movie is already filmed and in production, so we are eager to see how the next installment continues the story of this teen hit.
Overall, it was not as good as the first movie. But we would give this sequel a solid 3.5/5.
