When you step into the doors of Good Burrito Co., you’re immediately hit with the tantalizing smell of burritos and the sound of the upbeat music.
What struck me first was Good Burrito’s bright, clean atmosphere and unique decorations, such as wooden crate flats on the ceiling. Their mascot, a donkey, is a prominent motif in the decor of the restaurant. Upbeat music is pumped throughout the restaurant. Their prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get.
Good Burrito Co. opened in 2015 with the intention of serving the greater Elizabethtown community. The owners founded it to spread their love of burritos with the community. Uniquely, Good Burrito places emphasis on building their business around the community. A portion of all profits made goes to local organizations. Past recipients include the Elizabethtown Fire Department and the Community Cupboard.
When asked about how Good Burrito affects the community, co-founder Doug Logan says that “we provide a healthy, fast and fresh alternative to other restaurants in town, [and employ] around 20 people living in or around Elizabethtown. We try and source as many ingredients as we can. A lot of our meats, for example, come from right across the street at Groffs.”
To order, you select a burrito bowl, burrito, quesadilla, or nachos, and begin building your personalized order. You’re able to choose from brown or white rice, followed by black or pinto beans. Following that, you choose from chicken, brisket, pork, or steak to go on top. You’re also provided with a wide selection of salsa, varying from mild to extra hot. The final step is picking your fresh ingredients, which include lettuce, corn, cheese, chips, cucumbers, jalapenos, sour cream, and fajita veggies.
I asked Logan what he thought the most popular dish was. He said, “Our most popular dish would have to be our burrito bowls. Chicken is the most popular meat followed closely by the brisket.”
My choice was the burrito bowl, and I put white rice, black beans, chicken, cheese, lettuce, and corn into the bowl. After trying the bowl, I understand why it’s so popular among Good Burrito customers. The burrito bowl combines the flavors traditionally found in a burrito, minus the shell. The burrito bowl decreased the dangers of spilling that usually come with eating an overstuffed burrito shell, which was something I appreciated. I enjoyed the experience of the burrito bowl as well as the taste that came with the ingredients. Their wide selection allowed me to choose the items I wanted and customize my bowl. The beans and rice made for a filling meal, and the chicken was deliciously seasoned. The flavors worked well to create a fresh, delicious dinner that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Good Burrito Co. had a pleasant atmosphere, with nice service and tasty food. I would wholeheartedly recommend Good Burrito to anyone with an obsession with delicious burritos or just those that enjoy Mexican food from time to time.
